Faculty Talk Update
We’re moving on to testing Faculty Talk through Office 365 and making sure we have the technology support we need in place before it comes back online.
Shared Governance Project
Howard Teibel, president of Teibel Education, is consulting with NMSU to help us build a productive foundation around shared decision-making, otherwise known as the practice of shared governance. This initial phase will bring together a small group of leaders from faculty, administration and the regents to explore principles in shared governance and build an intentional process to collaborate across the Board of Regents, NMSU leadership (Chancellor level; President level), and Faculty Senate.
The process will focus on engaging these leaders in productive dialogue, education in best practices, and cultivating a culture of trust. The goal is to create a foundation for the academy, administration, and regents to work together with greater ease and accelerate strategic decision-making on behalf of the university.
Success for this initiative includes:
- Learning to listen and collaborate across various stakeholder groups
- Shifting the background mood from skepticism to being open to other perspectives
- Developing principles that guide how these stakeholders can best work together
- Strengthening the capacity to “disagree and commit” around roles, responsibilities and strategic initiatives
- Revising and developing a common understanding for how we approach our shared governance policies
This work is supported by the Board of Regents, NMSU administrative leadership, and Faculty Senate leadership, as all are committed to improving how we work together on behalf of the needs of the university and larger community. There will be subsequent phases for inclusive conversations to seek input from other campus stakeholders.
Also, our blog is live, let’s see how it is working, let me know 🙂
